Four green spaces in Manchester have received coveted Green Flag Awards, with two more retaining their awards for another year. The internationally recognised accolade is given to parks, cemeteries and green spaces which meet its high standards and are dished out once sites have been assessed by judges.
The awards are granted by the charity Keep Britain Tidy to recognise accessible green spaces that set an international benchmark for management. This year’s awards saw the highest number of accreditations with 2,216 parks receiving an award - and several of them are right here in Manchester.
Blackley, Gorton, Philips Park and Southern Cemeteries all received Green Flag Awards, which were announced by Keep Britain Tidy in July. Alexandra and Heaton Park also retained their Green Flag awards.
