When the temperature plummets and the nights creep in, sometimes a holiday is what is needed to shake off the winter blues.
While jetting off to a tropical beach to escape the brutal Scottish winter sounds ideal, for the majority of Scots this is simply unrealistic as the cost of living crisis continues to hit households across the country.
A cosy staycation in a rural Scottish hotel or inn is the next best thing, and fortunately many of these can be booked for a bargain price.
Among the Scottish hotels currently available at a discounted rate is the Wheatsheaf Hotel in the small Borders village of Swinton. An overnight stay for two can be booked for £99 through voucher website Wowcher, almost 40 per cent off the standard price of £159.

Tucked away amidst the stunning Borders scenery, the Wheatsheaf Hotel is perfect for those who want to get away from the world for a little while. All of its rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi, a flatscreen TV, and 24-hour service.
Also included in the deal is a full Scottish breakfast, while guests can even upgrade for an additional cost to include a two-course dinner and a bottle of wine at the hotel's restaurant.
Looking at travel website Tripadvisor, the Wheatsheaf Hotel is very popular amongst guests, with an average rating of 4.5 out of five based on 462 reviews.
