The cast of 'Trial of the Chicago 7' on their SAG Awards win

Aaron Sorkin has a new special someone in his life!

Netflix scored a big haul of Oscar nominations this year – 35 in total – putting the streamer in the top three for a studio in the history of the awards.

The Hollywood Reporter won 10 National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards for best TV critic, best entertainment industry/arts investigative story and best portrait photo, among others, at the 13th annual awards show. Also during the virtual ceremony, which took place Friday night, Aaron Sorkin accepted the sixth annual Veritas Award on behalf of his Netflix film The Trial of the Chicago 7.

By Jill SerjeantLOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Courtroom drama "The Trial of the Chicago 7" and jazz period film "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" were the big winners at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards, one of the last major ceremonies before the Oscars. "The Trial of the Chicago 7," set during a Vietnam War protest in 1968, took the prize for best ensemble with a cast that includes Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Frank Langella and Mark Rylance.

As another award season inches closer to the end, the Screen Actors Guild honoured the best in acting in TV and film. With only the Oscars and BAFTA left to wrap up the Hollywood awards season this, the excitement is amping up.

The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Crown and Schitt's Creek were among the big winners at the 2021 SAG Awards, which aired Sunday as as a one-hour, pre-taped virtual ceremony on TBS and TNT. Filmmaker Aaron Sorkin's The Trial of the Chicago 7 got a major boost on the road to the Oscars upon winning the SAG Award for best ensemble, the guild's top honor that's equivalent to a best picture prize.

The  27th Screen Actors Guild Awards saw the best of onscreen performances, in TV and film, receiving recognition. The one hour pre-taped show awarded actors across 15 various categories with individual as well as ensemble acts being awarded.

The starry cast of Aaron Sorkin’s 1960s courtroom drama “The Trial of the Chicago 7” took the top prize Sunday at a virtual Screen Actors Guild Awards where actors of color, for the first time, swept the individual film awards.The 27th SAG Awards, presented by the Hollywood actors’ guild SAG-Aftra, were a muted affair — and not just because the red carpet-less ceremony was condensed to a pre-recorded, Zoom-heavy, one-hour broadcast on TBS and TNT.

Netflix inarguably had a very big night at the SAG Awards, both in movies and TV categories taking half of the latter’s eight categories across three shows ( The Queen’s Gambit, Ozark, The Crown), and three of the five big movie categories including both Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom stars Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman  in the lead acting slots , and for Outstanding Cast The Trial Of The Chicago 7  winning the big award of the evening which is SAG’s equivalent of the Best Picture Oscar.
