Warning: Spoilers ahead for “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers”Disney doesn’t often make jokes at it’s own expense, but when it does, its apparently goes all out. And so we have “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.”The movie, now streaming on Disney+, is basically one giant Easter Egg full of smaller Easter eggs for animation fans everywhere. The movie marks some major studio crossovers, combining Disney characters with Dreamworks characters, Warner Bros.
projects and more. And along the way, it doesn’t shy away from making Disney the punchline. So, in case you missed them, we’ve rounded up some of the best self-owns Disney made in its new film.As we enter the world of Chip and Dale, we meet them at school, where the pair is starting third grade.
But, before we even meet the chipmunks, we get a joke about one of Disney’s other OGs: Donald Duck. While the students are all filing into school, we see a teacher yelling at one in particular — a duck who isn’t wearing pants. But no, it’s not the one you’re thinking of, and that teacher makes sure to point that out.“Put some pants on! You’re not Donald Duck!” the teacher yells angrily. So apparently, even in the animated world, Donald Duck is the only one who can get away with going pantsless (though we suspect Winnie the Pooh might’ve gotten a pass, had he been in the film). As it turn out, faith, trust and pixie dust wasn’t enough to keep Peter Pan going after his movie came out in this world.
As he grew up, he found himself cast aside, which made him angry. So, he created a bootleg version of his own movie, called “Flying Bedroom Boy.”It did so well that he became “Sweet Pete” — the villain of “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. He started an entire bootlegging operation, creating off-brand

Chip ’N Dale: Rescue Rangers debuted on Disney+ yesterday (May 20), and with it came a remix of the titular series’ classic theme song, courtesy of Post Malone.Malone keeps intact much of the original version’s lyrics and core melody, but spins it through his signature trap-influenced pop style. It marks his third time contributing to a Hollywood soundtrack – in 2017, he linked up with Watt for the xXx: Return Of Xander Cage inclusion ‘Burning Man’, and in 2019, had his ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’ cut ‘Sunflower’ (a collab with Swae Lee) featured prominently in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” are back. Not the beloved syndicated television series, which ran for three seasons and 65 episodes from 1989 to 1990 as part of the Disney Afternoon weekday programming block, mind you, but the live-action/animated adventure directed by The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer. This new movie takes place in a world where Chip (John Mulaney) and Dale (Andy Samberg) were stars of that long-ago TV show and have now grown apart, improbably brought together to solve a mystery that personally impacts their cartoon world (Monterey Jack, now voiced by Eric Bana, is missing).
Clayton Davis The genie is out of the bottle for the dynamic director George Miller and his newest venture “Three Thousand Years of Longing,” starring Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba. You’ll hear the awards comparisons that call it Miller’s version of “The Shape of Water” (2017), Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-winner for best picture, but it’s closer to Terrence Malick’s “The Tree of Life” (2012) but with an accessible and soulful core. It’s a love story to the storytellers, and a love letter to mankind.
Disney’s 1989 animated show “Chip ‘n Dale,” about two chipmunks-turned-detectives, has a lot of fans out there. It’s one of Disney’s most popular shows.

Caroline Framke Chief TV CriticStay in Los Angeles long enough, and you’ll have an Angelyne story. Decades after plastering the city in mysterious billboards bearing her name and Barbie-esque silhouette, the self-made urban legend can still be found zipping through the streets in her signature Corvette, a flash of bubblegum pink on the desert horizon.
Amy Nicholson If only Andy Warhol had lived to see “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers,” the cinematic culmination of the Campbell’s soup can painter’s meta-commentary on the blurring of art and commerce. This frenetic and funny crossbreeding of live action and cartoon is both a reboot and an anti-reboot, a corporate-funded raspberry at corporate IP, and a giddily dumb smart aleck committed to mocking its joke — and making it, too.Director Akiva Schaffer, a producer and occasional helmer, has already helped to invert the meathead action flick (“MacGruber”), the rock biopic (“Pop Star: Never Stop Never Stopping”), the time-loop comedy (“Palm Springs”) and, of course, the music video as one-third of The Lonely Island, co-founded with his middle school friends Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone, both of whom voice characters here.
