Strictly Come Dancing star Gorka Marquez has praised Amy Dowden as he declares she is a "warrior" amid her cancer battle.
The Strictly Come Dancing professional, 33, was first diagnosed with aggressive stage three breast cancer in May after finding a lump while preparing for her honeymoon with husband Ben Jones. Since then, Amy has been absent from this series of Strictly as she undergoes treatment for her cancer.
The Welsh dancer has made a few appearances on the BBC ballroom dancing show since it returned to BBC1 last month as her supportive co-stars rally around her. Praising Amy's strength, Gorka said: "I love Amy, everything she’s been through… I’m getting goosebumps just saying it."
He told The Mirror: "Everything she’s going through, she’s such a warrior. She was a warrior before and even now - with everything she’s going through she has a smile and I know she’s inspired so many people, helped so many people out there.
"So I’m grateful we have our family on Strictly, we’re all here supporting her. She has such a strong mentality - like I said before, she was a warrior. I was having a chat with her the other day and she has such a positive mind, she’s so determined."
Head judge Shirley Ballas also shared support for Amy amid her cancer treatment, stating that she will be back on the show by next year. Shirley told the Mirror: "I know her fight having known her as a little girl and she will be back on that show by next year.
"We love her, we miss her. She's very creative, she's so positive when you go on tour with her, she gets you upbeat." She added: "I send her flowers and notes and letters and tell her what's been going on."
