Giovanni Pernice, the Italian professional dancer who is being investigated by Strictly Come Dancing bosses following allegations he was abusive to some of his celebrity dancing partners, has now been criticised for possibly snubbing one of his fellow dancers on the show. In an unearthed clip from 2023’s final, dancer Vito Coppola and his celebrity partner Ellie Leach are celebrating winning the competition and are surrounded by lots of the other Strictly competitors, as well as presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman as they raise the glitterball trophy in the air.
However, Giovanni, who competed last year with Amanda Abbington until she left five weeks into the competition for personal reasons, is nowhere to be seen. All the other dancers rush to congratulate Vito and Ellie, but Giovanni is not in the crowd.
Both Ellie and Vito have unfollowed Giovanni online in recent weeks, and there have been rumours that Vito and Giovanni have not been on friendly terms for months. Meanwhile, Giovanni has been dogged by rumours about his aggressive behaviour that began shortly after Amanda left the series.
At the time, he sent her a message on social media that said: "Amanda… I am so sad we can’t continue but I am proud of what we achieved and I am sending you so much love.” Last week, following allegations about his time on the BBC series, Giovanni released a statement on Instagram at the same time it was suggested he will not be appearing in the next run of Strictly at the end of the year. "I reject any suggestion of abusive or threatening behaviour, and I look forward to clearing my name," he wrote .
