Strictly's Angela Rippon 'sliced off flesh' on leg moments before live show

Ahead of this week’s Strictly Come Dancing live show, Angela Rippon has revealed how she hopes it will be less eventful, after it emerged she sliced open her leg just minutes before taking to the dance floor during week four! As eagle eyed viewers may recall, last week Angela suffered an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction when her shoe came undone at the end of her dance, prompting her partner Kai Widdrington to drop down to his knees in order to fasten it. However, it has since emerged that this was far from the only catastrophe to befall Angela that night, as she had previously cut open her leg in rehearsals just moments before taking to the dance floor.
The veteran broadcaster, who turned 79 last week, recounted the incident in her column for The Telegraph, where she wrote: “Well Saturday’s Strictly is one that I won’t forget in a hurry – and I’m not talking about my shoe falling off or doing the splits. But the drama before I got onto the dance floor is something I don’t want to live through again.
“Before any of us go live onto the studio floor to perform for the judges, we have about 15 minutes off stage to do a final run-through. With just over five minutes to go, Kai and I were doing a last-minute revision of our steps, when my foot stuck on a sticky patch on the floor.
“When I looked down, my leg was bleeding from a cut on my right shin.
The razor-sharp edge of my high-heeled dance shoe had sliced off a bit of flesh while I was doing a twisting manoeuvre. “Immediately the Strictly machine swung into action.
The medic was called.
