Jody Cundy CBE is swapping the swimming pool for the dance floor, as the eleventh celebrity contestant confirmed for the brand-new series of Strictly Come Dancing. The news was announced during the BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast show on Wednesday morning, 9 August. Jody is best known for being a World and Paralympic Champion across swimming and cycling events.
His most recent win was at the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow this week. Speaking about joining the show Jody said: “Excited to be welcomed into the Strictly family and throw myself headfirst into the world of ballroom dancing. "Can’t wait to get stuck in, bring on the glitter and sequins!” After Jody competed in Tokyo 2021, he became the first man in Paralympics GB history to win medals at seven different games. Back in 2012, he was made an Honorary Doctor in Health Sciences at Anglia Ruskin University. Just a month later, he was given an Honorary Master of Science degree from the University of Hertfordshire.
In 2009 Jody was made an MBE for his services to Disability Sport, and in 2017 this was upgraded to an OBE for his services to Swimming & Cycling.
