A Stockport man is set to go on trial in November after denying a murder charge.
Joseph Stephen McGowan, of Glebe Street in Offerton, has pleaded not guilty to one count of murder. He denies killing Darren McGowan, 51, on May 3, 2023.
At a short plea and trial preparation hearing today at Manchester Crown Square, Mr McGowan appeared via video link from HMP Forest Bank in Salford. Wearing a black tracksuit, he spoke only to confirm his identity, enter a plea, and confirm he understood the nature of proceedings.

“Your case is listed for trial on November 27, 2023,” Judge Alan Conrad KC told the 20-year-old defendant. The judge also confirmed he is set to preside over the trial later this year.
He added: “You must attend your trial from custody. If you refuse to come, it’s likely to go ahead in your absence.”
At the short hearing in courtroom 12, Mr McGowan was represented by Mr Henry Blackshaw. The Crown was represented by Peter Wilson.
