I Saw The TV Glow which has played both the Sundance Film Festival and the recent Berlinale in Germany.I’ve heard some great things about this one though sadly missed it on the trailer over in Berlin a couple of weeks ago.The film comes from writer/director Jane Schoenbrun and stars Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-PaineTeenager Owen is just trying to make it through life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show — a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. Leo Barraclough International Features Editor German filmmaker Nele Wohlatz‘s “Sleep With Your Eyes Open,” which had its world premiere on Saturday in the Encounters section of the Berlin Film Festival, tells a story about the search for a sense of belonging in a foreign country. It starts with Kai, a young Taiwanese woman with a broken heart, arriving at a Brazilian beach resort for a holiday. Here, her life crosses paths with a group of Chinese migrants living in a luxury tower block, and in particular a young woman called Xiaoxin, who accepts her fate, and Fu Ang, who is working in an umbrella store when we meet him but harbors ambitions to become wealthy.

Mark Schilling Japan Correspondent Screening out of competition in the Berlinale Special section, Ishii Gakuryu’s “The Box Man” had a long and difficult gestation. Based on a 1973 novel by Abe Kobo, this film about a man who wears a cardboard box as a mobile carapace started as a successful pitch from Ishii to Abe 32 years ago. “Abe had seen my films and liked them,” says Ishii at the office of the film’s production company and local distributor, Happinet Phantom Studios.
