Coronation Street legend Vicky Entwistle has expressed her faith in the Spanish authorities' efforts to locate missing British teen Jay Slater, despite his friends criticising the local police for their perceived "lack of urgency".
The soap star, who revealed her familial ties to the missing lad earlier this week, took to social media to share updates on the ongoing search.
The reality TV star and actress, who portrayed Janice Battersby in the soap, has been actively involved in the search for her godmother's grandson who mysteriously vanished after attending a festival in Tenerife. Amidst fears for his safety, Vicky turned to Twitter in the early morning hours of Friday, 21 June, to reassure everyone that efforts to find Jay are in full swing.
She wrote: "Although Jay has still not been found I am confident that the Spanish authorities are doing their upmost to find him. My Brother lives in Barcelona and assures me that the news coverage is prevalent on the Spanish mainland." Jay has been missing since roughly 8am on Monday, 17 June, after heading to the island for a music event.
The 19 year old had reached out to a mate to say he was disoriented and his phone battery was on its last legs, shortly before the call ended abruptly.
He decided to keep the party going on Sunday while his travel companions headed back to their accommodation. His phone last pinged in the Rural de Teno Park, also known as the National Park of Teno, a favourite spot for hikers.
Meanwhile, Facebook groups have been established across the UK, with kind-hearted Brits offering to fly over and assist in the search. Vicky has stayed in touch with Jay's anxious family and is keeping the public updated.
