Lisa Cameron will go head-to-head with an activist after she said she could not rule out forcing a by-election if she was binned.
Cameron, who has represented East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow since 2015, is facing a fight for her political future at a hustings this week.
She is up against Grant Costello to be the candidate at the next general election.
She told the Mirror last week she had felt shunned by the party hierarchy after speaking out against a sex pest colleague.
She said she was ostracised after challenging colleagues over their treatment of a young staffer who was sexually harassed SNP MP Patrick Grady.
Cameron said she wanted to “continue serving my constituents” but did not ruled out returning to working in healthcare if she did not win the nomination.
“I am philosophical about it and would probably consider my position as I can still contribute a lot to our NHS,” she said. “But my main current aim is to secure the backing of branch members and continue to represent my home town.”
It is understood she has received the 50 signatures required to be nominated in the contest.
One party source said her comment about considering her position had not gone down well.
Costello was nominated by the party’s East Kilbride and Strathaven Westminster Campaign Committee.
The MP, who won the seat in 2019 with a 13,322 majority, has attracted criticism inside the SNP over her anti-abortion stance.
Cameron and the SNP have been contacted.
