Acting Your Age Campaign (AYAC), which was founded four years ago by Nicky Clark, is calling for equal representation in the UK between men and women aged over 45.Women in the UK only have a “shelf life” on screen while their male colleagues have a “whole life”, the letter claims while outlining the campaign’s wishes for a “parity pledge” to help tackle “entrenched” ageism in the entertainment industry.Juliet Stevenson, Meera Syal, David Tennant, Lesley Manville and Sanjeev Bhaskar are also among the letter’s 100+ signatories.“Today’s in-demand young actress is tomorrow’s unemployed middle-aged actress,” part of the letter reads. “We are fighting to ensure that our generation of excluded women is the last generation of excluded women.“Ageism targeting women is an entrenched industry staple that is outdated, harmful and neglects the millions of audience members who appreciate seeing women over 45 telling the stories of our lives.AYAC has laid out multiple recommendations for broadcast and production company commissioners, as well as for those working in news and current affairs.

After a government minister advised that some people might consider taking on more working hours or moving to a better paid job to combat the cost of living crisis, we want to hear your thoughts on the suggestion.
Conservative MP for Redditch in Worcestershire Rachel Maclean, also the safeguarding minister in the Home Office, advised that focus is needed so people can 'protect themselves better', saying: "Whether that is by taking on more hours or moving to a better-paid job."
Ms Maclean did also caveat this by saying: "“It may be right for some people, they may be able to access additional hours, but, of course, it is not going to work for people who are already in three jobs."

Many have reacted angrily to the comments, with one reader saying: " Really think some politicians need to actually wake up. So many people are doing 2 or 3 jobs and working more than 60 hours a week."
Another also added: " How patronising I work practically full time my mum's partner works full time and we're only just managing with 2 wages coming in.
"Maybe these 'government ministers' should take a drop in pay instead of 5k a month try 2k and see how it feels."
