Holly Willoughby was none too pleased during a heated debate about the cost of living with guest Beverley Turner on This Morning. Speaking on Thursday's instalment of the ITV daytime show, Holly, 41, who recently shared a nifty hack for dog owners, explained to viewers that parents have been "living in McDonald's" with their children to save money on rising household bills.
While the television presenter dubbed it as one of the "saddest" things she'd ever heard, commentator Beverley didn't appear to have much sympathy as she urged parents to "get a job".The debate began when Holly explained the "reality of the situation", saying that families had been seen "brushing their teeth" at the fast-food chain to dodge their energy bills. Beverley interjected to say: "I don't think there are many people doing that, we need to keep perspective in a way." Holly looked visibly irritated as she said that even one person doing this was still "one too many".
Beverley responded: "I'm going to sound incredibly callous now, but there is a huge employment shortage. There is more availability for jobs now than there ever has been." Holly cut her off, asking: "Then who pays for the childcare?" Beverley replied: "I totally agree, that's really difficult, but if your children are at school all day, I'm sorry but... unless you have a severe mental health problem or genuine illness, in which case I would urge people to seek help." Phillip Schofield added: "But what else do you do? You're just saying, 'get a job'." Beverley explained: "I don't know...
but there is support. We do have a decent system in this country to support people who need benefits, advice.
