Former Manchester United and Scotland star Gordon Strachan believes Scott McTominay must have a real think about his future at Old Trafford.
Manager Erik ten Hag has completed the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea, leaving the midfield duo of Fred and McTominay facing uncertainty. The former is perhaps more likely to leave this summer, with one year left on his contract and reported interest from Fulham.
But, McTominay is also at a potential crossroads in his career, having played 24 matches for United last season. A reunion with Jose Mourinho, at Roma, has been speculated while Celtic, West Ham and Newcastle United have been linked too. In total, McTominay has made 209 appearances for the first team, scoring 19 goals.
It was Mourinho who handed the player his debut, back in 2017, and McTominay has often done himself no harm in a United shirt. But, with Ten Hag looking to push the club on next season, it remains to be seen how much of a part the Scot has to play.
United are said to value the player in the £25million region. And in the eyes of Strachan, the player needs to consider whether an exit from his boyhood club is for the best.

“If he isn’t going to be starting, then perhaps he should think about joining a club where he will play every week," Strachan told Genting Casino. "But, it’s a scary thing leaving Manchester United. He’s at one of the biggest clubs in the world.
"What he needs to do is think about where he is going to be happy. Is he going to be happy being a squad player for Manchester United, or does he want to fulfil that undoubted potential that he has and go and play every week for another team?”
