Several Manchester United supporters have welcomed the prospect of the club signing Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana in this summer's transfer window.
United, who will get their pre-season schedule under way in a little over a week's time, are stepping up their efforts to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper in the event of David de Gea leaving the club. The Spaniard, technically, is now a free agent following the expiry of his contract on June 30, but United are going to continue face-to-face talks with him following his wedding this weekend.
But should they fail to reach an agreement over a new deal, United will have no choice but to source a replacement to become the club's new No.1. Onana has been cited as a leading contender to replace De Gea and Inter chief executive Beppe Marotta confirmed that the Reds have declared interest in the 27-year-old.
Marotta, as quoted by The Athletic, said: "Manchester United have expressed an interest which may or may not lead to an offer in the next few days. Once that happens, both Inter and the player will carefully assess it."
In a separate interview, speaking to Sky Italia, Marotta added: "Onana hasn't received any official offer from Manchester United yet."
