Scotland is in for a stunning week next week, with temperatures nearing the 30s in some areas. Met Office forecasts say that Glasgow could reach 29C next Tuesday which would surpass the hottest day of the year so far, when temperatures hit 27.3 degrees in Aboyne, Deeside just four days ago.
Despite the blistering heat the Met Office have said that Tuesday will start off with sunny intervals but will change to cloudy in the late morning. However, if Glasgow does hit 29C it would be hotter than Los Angeles, California which is set to be 26C on Tuesday according to Met Office forecasts.
It wouldn't be too far off from Scotland's hottest day ever, which was recorded when Greycrook hit an unbelievable 32.9C on August 9, 2003. An even hotter 33.2C degrees was measured at Strathclyde Park in Motherwell on Thursday, June 28, 2018, however the Met Office did not accept this temperature as they say that it could have been affected by a parked vehicle.
While some will lap it up, the high-20s can be a dangerous heat so it is important to remember to be mindful about your health. Dr Agostinho Sousa, Head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at UKHSA, said: “Heat-health alerts have now been issued to the majority of the country, with temperatures set to remain consistently high throughout the duration of this week.
“Most of us can enjoy the hot weather when it arrives, but it is important to keep yourself hydrated and to find shade where possible when UV rays are strongest, between 11am and 3pm.
"If you have vulnerable family, friends and neighbours, make sure they are aware of how they can keep themselves protected from the warm weather.’’
This comes as an amber weather warning for extreme heat has been issued down south for England
