A convicted pervert who was blocked in a street by locals after being caught making sexual remarks to a child has been banned from communicating with kids.
The Record revealed how George Collins’ arrest was caught on camera after furious residents used their vehicles to stop his car from leaving the scene, in Tullibody, Clackmannanshire, in 2021.
Now, more than two years later, the 66-year-old has admitted an offence under the Sexual Offences Act.
At Alloa Sheriff Court, Collins admitted communicating indecently with an older child, aged 15, during the incident.
The pensioner, of Kirkcaldy, Fife, had been due to face trial last week but pleaded guilty instead.
He was sentenced to a three-year community payback order with a number of restrictions on his behaviour.
We told at the time of the incident how a local dad was hailed a “hero” after he used his lorry to prevent the suspect from driving away after he was seen talking to the girl.
And Police Scotland thanked the local community “for their assistance” in detaining Collins as a probe was launched.
Locals shared images of Collins, who was wearing a face mask due to Covid and dressed in a white shirt and black trousers, as he was confronted by residents and led away by officers into a police car.
Lorry driver Paul Price told the Record he was “just in the right place at the right time” after helping snare him.
An onlooker said his flatbed truck had its door blocking Collins’ exit after neighbours raised the alarm.
Mum Joyce Campbell shared images on social media of the suspect sitting behind the wheel before his arrest.
She wrote: “Warning. Please keep your kids safe in Tullibody.”
