A hero Glasgow man has told of the moment he ran back into a burning building to save his neighbour.
Chris Logan, 38, raced into the tenement on Bathgate Street in Dennistoun when he saw a woman in the window above his flat, where the fire had taken hold. Chris managed to burst through the woman's door and guide her downstairs before he was taken to hospital to be treated for severe smoke inhalation.
The fire took hold at around 1.35pm on Monday. Just minutes before, Chris was catching up with a friend across the road from his home when his pal noticed 'brown smoke billowing' from his flat.
He quickly rushed down the stairs of the tenement and towards his close where he was met with a wall of smoke. Despite his best efforts to save his beloved cat Oreo and his brother's ashes, they were both sadly lost in the inferno.
Chris told Glasgow Live: "As I was running up I was kicking and banging doors to alert everyone. Thankfully a lot of folk weren't in their flats, but I didn't know this at the time.
"I got to my door and smashed it in. As soon as it opened there was a wall of black smoke. I dropped down and crawled to my living room.
"I couldn't see anything but I could hear the blood rushing to my head. I couldn't see the fire, I could only see a faint orange glow on the left as I went in.
"I tried to smother it with a cushion but that generated a massive boom of flames. The fire was situated at the very far right of my sofa.
"I realised I couldn't do anything and made my way downstairs. When I got down I was screaming at all the neighbours to phone the emergency services.
"My mind was set on getting my brother's ashes and my cat but unfortunately I failed at both of those things.
"Oreo was a rescue cat and unfortunately passed away
