An East Lothian mum has told of her horror after a 'youth hurled a rock at her car' whilst she was driving. Kirsty Lyus was sitting in her car on her phone after finishing a teaching class the Loch Centre in Tranent when she heard a noise like a 'gunshot', before realising someone had thrown a rock.
Her entire passenger side window and windscreen was smashed leaving Kirsty very shaken. She immediately called the police to report what had happened. She claims she saw one youth dressed in black running from the scene.
According to the Tranent local, towards the end of her class a gang of youths had been causing trouble outside the centre and staff had to lock the doors. After being left terrified and emotional for days after the incident, Kirsty has now had to fork out money for her car to be repaired and hire a replacement vehicle while it gets fixed.
Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Kirsty said: "I was just quickly sending a message with my head down and then all of a sudden I heard an almighty bang, it sounded like a gunshot.
"I realised my front passenger window was completely smashed and the glass was everywhere. It was really scary and I can only tell you the story now as most of Thursday and Friday I was really upset - I got a real fright.
"I was really lucky - the size of the rock was really substantial and there was real intent behind what they threw and the force they had to throw it with because when I looked up and out I couldn't see anything but then I saw the back of someone running away.
"I phoned the police and they were so kind as I was really distressed. They explained they couldn't get an officer out to me but asked if I could go to Musselburgh police station to make a statement."
