A Scots man who once moved from job to job to hide the fact he couldn't write has just published his third book.
Sean Begg, who lives in Edinburgh, says he hopes his success will inspire others who are living with severe dyslexia to pursue their goals they feel are currently unobtainable. The 35-year-old started exploring the creative industry after spending much of his adult life bouncing between jobs because of his illiteracy.
Growing up, he said that teachers would often brush him aside due to his severe dyslexia and that he would be ostracised and left to his own devices during classes. Fast forward a couple of decades and Sean has just published his third book 'Candyland' following his movie 'Monkey Culture'.
He told Edinburgh Live: “I’m overjoyed to have my third book published and it is something I’ve been working on for a long time but it would not have been possible without someone helping me to ghostwrite it over the past year and a half. I’ve always struggled a bit with holding down a job since school as my writing and reading skills are so bad. I’m a bit old school really, if you show me how to do something then I can do most trades but nowadays as a labourer you need to fill out a range of forms and things.
“Before lockdown I got fired from my job and I was depressed for a bit but then I thought a lot of people are in the same boat so I focused on projects like my film Monkey Culture which is now on Prime and Apple TV. It was footage of a friend and I growing up, he sadly died from a heart condition and it was my way of grieving to create the film.
