A DJ who admitted to raping a sleeping woman is now charging people to join a “forgiveness movement”.
Craig Strachan made a startling confessional video, in which he admitted sexually assaulting a young woman in her sleep when he was 21.
The Record reported on Thursday how the Scot had “forgiven himself” for the attack, sparking fury from sexual violence campaigners.
But in a bizarre move, Strachan has started up a “forgiveness movement”, charging people £20 a head to turn up at a planned gathering.
Hosted on the meetup.com platform, the gathering says it is part of a “global thinking method” based on followers “forgiving themselves” for their past misdeeds.
One former friend said they would complain to the platform about the nature of the event.
The friend said: “This is next level – someone genuinely trying to cash in on being a rapist. This is crazy stuff.
“At the very least, (he should) be interviewed by police over that rape he’s admitted to and tell the police who the victim is because she might want him convicted now he’s admitted it.
“To be saying that everything is all right as long as you apologise and forgive yourself is not his place.”
We told earlier this week how Strachan admitted his crime in a video interview on the “I’mPossible” motivational YouTube channel.
He said: “When I had my spiritual awakening last year, it was so so scary because I was reminded of something that happened when I was 21, when I was really high and totally f***** up, I raped a girl.
“I had sex with her when she was sleeping. It lasted about 10 seconds. She was in my bed and as soon as it happened I instantly knew, ‘S***, I should not have done that’.”
