A bakery owner has been left devastated after thieves smashed their way into the shop and stole the till. The Honeybee Bakery on Station Road in Milngavie was targeted by the heartless crooks on Sunday, January 15.
Owner Vittoria Capaldi was alerted to the break-in by a concerned resident at roughly 8.30pm after they heard two loud bangs coming from the store. The 28-year-old rushed to the shop, where she found a window had been smashed and the till and cash had been taken.
Vittoria was forced to close the business while she and staff cleared up the mess of the break-in. She said the clear-up cost her team a day's sales, which has been especially tough to deal with due to the cost-of-living crisis.
Speaking to Glasgow Live, Vittoria said: "It happened around 8.30pm when there will still people around. A woman out walking her dog heard the noises and contacted me and the police.
"The street is normally very quiet, we've never had anything like this happen before so it's been a big shock. I think they tried to break into another shop on the street but weren't able to get in.
"We've lost a day's business due to the clear up and we'll have to replace the till and the window so it's a lot of money for a small business. As if January isn't hard enough, especially during the cost of living crisis."
The criminals were caught breaking into the store on CCTV before getting into a car outside the train station. Police later found the discarded till nearby. The Honeybee Bakery opened eight years ago and currently has around 10 employees, including in-house bakers.
Vittoria said: "We've been lucky that we've got CCTV installed and they weren't criminal masterminds so there were lots of fingerprints left behind. We've never had
