A dad who was found drunk and asleep at the wheel in the middle of a slip road has been banned from driving.
Brian Shannon was so drunk he thought the section of the A77 he had stopped in was a layby - and had to be helped to the police car after being woken by officers. It became clear he was under the influence of alcohol." They could smell alcohol from his breath, he was "significantly slurring his words" and officers had to help him from his car to theirs "due to how unsteady he was on his feet".
She added: "He freely stated to police officers that he thought he was parked in a layby." Defence solicitor Danielle McAlonan said Shannon, of Maybole, South Ayrshire, had "a fragmented memory of the day in question" and knew he would lose his job as an HGV driver as a result of an inevitable road ban. Sheriff Nicky Patrick said: "This was an incredibly high reading. This
