An Antiques Roadshow expert who has an incurable brain tumour is calling on the UK Government to increase funding to study the disease. Scots TV ace Theo Burrell, 36, started suffering horrific migraines that left her unable to bend over or lie down in December 2021.
She visited multiple doctors who couldn't diagnose the issue until she visited A&E last year, where she was given her life-changing diagnosis. The Edinburgh-born auctioneer is now campaigning to increase research funding after learning of her glioblastoma (GBM) at just 35.
Theo has now undergone surgery to extend her life after being told she had just months left to live following her diagnosis. There is currently no cure for GBM brain tumours - and the Scots antique expert calls on the government to increase research funding.
Theo is now campaigning alongside the charity Brain Tumour Research to help reach 100,000 signatures on its petition to increase funding, in the hope of prompting a parliamentary debate.
She said: “When I was told my migraines were in fact brain cancer, I was really shocked and scared. I know what’s coming but, for now, I’m just getting on with things. I went back to work at Lyon & Turnbull last week, it’s been nice to do something normal from my previous life again.”
The charity is calling on the Government to ring-fence £110million of current and new funding to kick-start an increase in the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million a year by 2028. Brain Tumour Research wants the Government to recognise brain tumour research as a critical priority and to increase funding in line with the spend on cancers of breast, bowel and lung, as well as leukaemia.
Theo added: “I’ve signed the petition and encourage others to do
