Scotland is set to be hotter than Ibiza and Corfu this weekend as temperatures look set to soar.
Thermostats in large parts of the country will rise to the mid-10s on Saturday afternoon, according to the Met Office.
But it will be the far north of the country that will get the best of the spring heat, with temperatures climbing to 17C or even 18C in some parts.
While the forecasted warm sunshine up north screams ‘taps aff’, tanning conditions will not be at their optimum with UV levels expected to remain low.
And it looks like Saturday in the far reaches of Scotland will be warmer than some of the top holiday destinations.
Forecasters anticipate highs of 16C in Ibiza and 14C in Corfu at the same time.
But the temperatures in the Highlands are expected to dip back down to low single digits by Sunday morning.
The Met Office forecast for Saturday to Monday in the Highlands reads: “Dry with long clear or sunny spells this weekend, warm or very warm away from east coast by day but chilly overnight.
“Showery rain expected to spread north later Monday.”
The hottest day of the year recorded in the UK in 2022 so far was 17.2C in Pershore, Worcestershire, according to the Met Office.
And while forecasters anticipate the weekend weather in the Highlands to match or potentially exceed that, it is also set to be a bit windy.
Adrian McGivern, Meteorologist at the Met Office, explains: “High pressure to the east means we are drawing our air from the continent, it’s dry air.
“The isobars are quite tightly packed together, so although it will be quite sunny with widespread dry weather, it’s going to be quite breezy as well across the south coast and higher parts of the UK.
