One in 13 people across the UK are currently infected with Covid, according to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The latest figures mean that some 4.9million people across the UK have coronavirus at the moment - the highest number seen since ONS began collecting data.
This week's numbers are up around 600,000 from last week's 4.3million cases.
The ONS survey, which tests thousands of people randomly in households across the UK whether they have symptoms or not, is thought to give the most accurate reflection of what is happening with the virus across the community.
The record figures come as a further 41 Covid -related deaths were recorded in Scotland yesterday, according to Public Health Scotland.
Yesterday, the Scottish Government confirmed that a further 6,935 cases of Covid were recorded throughout the country.
It means that a total of 1,800,581 cases of the virus have been recorded in Scotland since records began.
However, these numbers are an underestimation as those without symptoms are no longer taking PCR tests with many taking lateral flow tests at home instead.
Those using lateral flow tests do no always register their result online which means that the data does not include these positive cases.
As of yesterday, there are 2,383 people receiving hospital treatment for coronavirus across Scotland - an increase of 231, according to Public Health Scotland data.
There are 22 people in intensive case with recently confirmed Covid, according to Scottish Government data.
