Locals are being asked to nominate "soul-destroying" towns in Scotland and the UK in the hunt for the most "depressing" place to live.
People who live in "boring" and "bland" towns, boroughs, and cities across the UK have been asked to submit their neck of the woods as the worst place to live in the nation. The poll is run by town reviews site iLiveHere.com, which has previously named Scotland's "worst postcodes".
As reported by The Mirror, 153 areas in Scotland, England, and Wales are currently on the shortlist for the not-so prestigious title. Only around 10 Scottish destinations are featured, though some inclusions will certainly turn some heads.
Among the Scots areas included on the list are its capital city of Edinburgh and the scenic Perthshire town of Dunkeld. The latter was named Scotland's "best place to live" in 2023.
Elsewhere, other Scottish towns in the running to be named the UK’s most soul-destroying place are Alloa in Clackmannanshire, Annan in Dumfries and Galloway, and Leven in Fife. The other only Scottish city other than Edinburgh to be featured is Aberdeen, the UK's northernmost major city.
The poll by iLiveHere.com is considered an annual tradition, however this year marks a change from its usual emphasis. While normally the questionnaire aims to uncover the "worst" place in the UK, this year is specifically seeking the most depressing.
A statement from iLiveHere said: “Bland, Boring, Soul destroying mediocrity with a gaping cultural void. This is what our new poll is about. This year we are ditching the usual suspects to focus on those towns throughout this septic isle that give you an almost-terminal case of ennui. The towns where you just exist rather than live.”
