Scotland’s richest man has announced a loss of almost £9.3 million on his Highland hospitality and estates business.
Annual accounts for Anders Holch Povlsen’s Wildland show turnover of £2.9 million in the 12 months to July last year, down from £4.2 million in the previous period.
Povlsen, 51, is a Danish businessman who made his fortune in retail. He is the largest shareholder in the online giant Asos and a large investor in Zalando.
He is Scotland’s largest landowner, with more than 220,000 acres over 13 estates, and has been investing heavily in conservation for several years.
The accounts state the farming, woodland and property businesses made positive contributions but hospitality “tipped back into loss”.
Wildland runs the Lundies House hotel, in Tongue, as well as offering luxury self-catering stays in other properties it has renovated, including Aldourie Castle on Loch Ness, which “absorbed” marketing costs leading up to its relaunch.”

Since the second season of The Traitors started this month, we have, like many, been obsessed with Claudia Winkleman's on-screen wardrobe - is there anyone who isn't talking about it? Hanging up her sequins and dancing shoes for outfits of a more practical nature (because let's face it, the riotous Scottish highlands is no place for strappy cami dresses and glitzy gowns), she's sparking a whole 'traitorcore' trend. Working with her stylist of 18 years, Sinead Mckeefry, the duo has managed to create a media storm with her weather-appropriate wear, ingeniously combining British heritage with a goth-punk aesthetic.

It was only a matter of time before Willem Dafoe worked with Yorgos Lanthimos, and the result is everything you might expect and more. In Poor Things, the actor plays Dr. Godwin Baxter, a Scottish scientist given to sewing dog’s heads onto chickens, and we meet him after completing the most important experiment of his life: by transplanting an infant’s brain into the skull of its dead mother, he creates the anarchic and wholly unpredictable Bella (Emma Stone). It may sound creepy, most likely because it really is, but Dafoe brings a surprising sadness to the role. Here, he reflects on the film’s strange, unique world, raises the curtain on 2024, and talks a little about his recent festival hit Inside, in which he plays a clueless thief who becomes trapped in the apartment of a wealthy art collector.
