The first bank holiday of 2024 is behind us already, with New Year's Day over and done with. There's a bit of a wait until our next bank holiday, which is the long Easter weekend.
Last year, we enjoyed an extra day off in May thanks to King Charles' coronation. But this year, England and Wales get the standard eight bank holidays in total, with no other special occasions on the cards.
However 2024 isn't quite an ordinary year - it's a leap year, which means we have an extra day at the end of February. While this only happens once every four years, it isn't a bank holiday - unfortunately.

Scotland gets nine - an extra one thanks to St Andrew's Day in December - while Northern Ireland gets ten bank holidays a year; an additional one for St Patrick's Day in March and for Battle of the Boyne (Orangemen’s Day) in July.
Good Friday falls on March 29 this year, with Easter Monday shortly following on April 1. The following month, we get two bank holidays - one on May 6 and one on May 27.
Then there's a pretty long wait for the final two bank holidays of the year over Christmas - Christmas Day and Boxing Day, which fall on a Wednesday and a Thursday this year.
