A new list of "the top whisky distilleries to collect from" in Scotland has been revealed.
If there is one thing Scotland is known for, it is our world-class whiskies. For those who are a fan of a single malt, the country is a true haven — with around 150 active whisky distilleries in total.
While many whisky lovers are primarily interested in the complex flavours of Scotland's national drink, others are more into collecting the rarest and most unique whiskies they can get their hands on. For those looking to start a collection, experts at online whisky retailer Master of Malt have put together a list of the nine "most collectible" whisky distilleries in Scotland.
As connoisseurs will know, Speyside is one of the whisky capitals of Scotland, so it is no surprise that Master of Malt singled out a number of distilleries in the region. According to the experts, The Macallan, The Balvenie, and Glenfarclas are all top distilleries to collect from.
The Macallan, in the small Moray village of Craigellachie, is known for producing many whiskies that go on to fetch very high prices at auction — including the most expensive Scotch ever sold. In November 2023, a bottle of the Macallan Adami 1926 sold for £2.2 million — beating the previous record of £1.5 million held by another bottle of the Macallan 1926.
Meanwhile, according to Master of Malt, The Balvenie distillery in Dufftown is renowned for regularly releasing limited-edition and unique bottlings that are highly popular amongst collectors. One of the rare whiskies currently available is The Balvenie 40 Year Old, which comes with an asking price of £9,199.95.
Elsewhere in Speyside, Glenfarclas is among the last remaining family-owned and operated distilleries in the country, and
