Sacha Baron Cohen to Be Honored for 'Borat' and 'Chicago 7' Roles at Santa Barbara International Film Festival

The WGA on Tuesday unveiled the movie nominations for its 2021 WGA Awards, honoring outstanding achievement in screenwriting of original, adapted and documentary films during 2020. Winners will be March 21 in a virtual ceremony. Check out the full list below.

Angelique Jackson The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) announced its nominees in the film and newly-created television categories for its 10th AACTA International Awards.Chloé Zhao’s “Nomadland” leads the film nominations, earning six nods, including best film, best direction in a film and nods for stars Frances McDormand, David Strathairn and Swankie. “The Trial of the Chicago 7” follows with five nominations.

It is truly unfortunate that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has disqualified Branford Marsalis’ riveting original score for the Netflix feature adaptation of the August Wilson play Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.  AMPAS’ current rule is that a movie’s music needs to be comprised of 60% of original score, and apparently this feature love letter to 1920s jazz and blues falls under that quota.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has unveiled the nominations for the 78th Golden Globe Awards and Netflix leads the pack with a record-breaking 42 nods — 22 for film and 20 for TV, followed by Amazon Studios with 10 — 7 for film and 3 for TV.

Sylvie Brett and Matt Casey are the definition of “it’s complicated” — and that won’t change anytime soon. Although Chicago Fire‘s Casey (Jesse Spencer) agreed to give Brett (Kara Killmer) space following their steamy makeout session, that doesn’t mean things won’t be heating back up in the future.

Sacha Baron Cohen told Deadline this week that he chased the role of Abbie Hoffman in The Trial of the Chicago 7 for over a decade before the project came together under Aaron Sorkin’s direction. That perseverance paid off.
