And he fumbled while being grilled on ITV as he was asked to describe a moment his family had to make a sacrifice while he was growing up. Mr Sunak initially said 'lot's of things', but failed to give any examples until being pressed by journalist Paul Brand.
His reply has been criticised as 'out of touch' at a time so many families are struggling to make ends meet, the Mirror reports. The interview was infamously recorded later on the same day as the D-Day events in Normandy, which Mr Sunak left early.

The chat, which will be screened on ITV tonight at 7pm, begins with Mr Sunak twice commenting on how the 80th anniversary commemorations had over-run - in scenes which could reignite the row he became embroiled in last week. “It all just ran over,” he said. “It was incredible, but it just ran over.”
During the 30-minute exchange, ITV Tonight presenter Paul Brand asked Mr Sunak “have you ever gone without something?” “Yes, I mean, my family emigrated here with very little. And that's how I was raised. I was raised with the values of hard work,” the PM replied.
Pushed on what he’d gone without as a child, Mr Sunak said: “Oh, we went without lots of things because my parents wanted to put everything into our education and that was a priority.” But when asked what sort of things had to be sacrificed, he could only say: “Lots of things.” He then laughed.
