Reflective Mark Hamill thanks Star Wars fans for an ‘extraordinary journey’

May 4 is the unofficial day of all things Star Wars, and if you're scratching your head as to why, just say it out loud: May the fourth. May the fourth be with you, too.

The Skywalker Saga has officially come to a close, a sci-fi opera that began more than four decades ago with 1977's and ended, two trilogies later, with last year's. But there are plenty more stories to tell from that galaxy far, far away.

Disney+ is giving you yet another reason to stay inside this Star Wars Day by adding to its already expansive Star Warscollection with — drum roll, plase — a new docuseries about everyone's favorite intergalactic bounty hunter, Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. As another gift, the streaming service will premiere the series finale of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, also on May 4.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was amongst the most-awaited films of 2019 as it marked an end of an era for the beloved Skywalker saga, that lasted 40 years and made household names out of Hollywood stars like Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, just to name a few! However, when Episode IX released, it was panned by the critics and fans alike as many complained about the pace, character arcs and making it a mission to erase Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Mark Hamill on Friday shared a thank-you letter he penned to Star Wars fans that he called "A few thoughts as one era ends and another begins...."

The rumors have circulated for years, but now it's finally, totally, officially confirmed: Ewan McGregor will return to the Star Wars universe to star as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new Disney+ series. The actor first played the character in the Star Wars prequel films, The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. (The character was originated by Sir Alec Guinness in the original film, Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope.)

Before J.J. Abrams was brought back to pen the script of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which ended the four-decade-long Skywalker Saga, Colin Trevorrow of Jurrasic World fame was going to write and direct Episode IX.
