It was this sort of imagery and development that prompted Dawson and Filoni to draw parallels with Gandalf from J.R.R.

There are still a lot of questions surrounding the future of “Star Wars” on the big screen. Even though Lucasfilm announced a trio of new films earlier this year, it’s difficult to imagine a world where they all get made, especially given how the studio has developed and canceled films before production quite a lot.

Donald Glover and his brother Stephen are set to write the forthcoming Lando series for Disney+.The Star Wars show was first announced back in 2020, with Glover recently confirming in an interview that Lucasfilm is definitely interested in moving ahead with the project.Previously Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien was attached to the project according to Variety but he is now longer involved, with both Glover brothers taking up writing duties alone.Speaking previously about the role of Lando Calrissian, which Glover first portrayed in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, he said: “I would love to play Lando again. Star Wars Ahsoka might be Dave Filoni’s best chance to make this change to Return Of The Jedi. The rumors of Captain Rex making his live-action debut in this upcoming series would be the key to making this small but important change. Filoni has a deep connection to these characters through his time working on The Clone Wars with George Lucas.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has said the company will be pulling back on creating new Star Wars and Marvel content.The announcement comes on the back of the company’s attempts to cut costs, having seen a number of their recent films, from Marvel to animation, underwhelm at the box office.“You pull back not just to focus, but also as part of our cost containment initiative. Spending less on what we make, and making less,” Iger told CNBC on Thursday (July 13).Iger said that many of the decisions were made to prop up the company’s flagship streaming service, Disney+, and attract more customers.The Disney CEO went on to note that an influx of new Marvel content, both on the big and small screens, had “diluted focus and attention”.“It had not been in the television business at any significant level, and not only did they increase their movie output, but they ended up making a number of TV series,” said Iger.
