Cinema Audio Society’s CAS Awards, which took place in Los Angeles on Saturday evening. It won in a category whose nominees were identical to the lineup in the Oscars’ Best Sound category: “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “The Batman,” “Elvis” and “Top Gun: Maverick.” During the time when the Oscars gave out separate sound awards for mixing and editing, the CAS winner went on to take the Oscar for sound mixing a little less than half the time – but in the first two years after the Academy combined its two categories into one, the guild and Oscar winners have matched both times.

Yellowjackets kicks off its second season this month.Created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, the mystery thriller series follows a girls’ football team in 1996 who, while travelling to a tournament in Seattle, crash-land in the Canadian wilderness and are left stranded for nineteen months. Between their attempts to survive, the show also jumps to their adult lives in the present day.The show’s first season received seven nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards last year, including Outstanding Drama Series and acting nods for Melanie Lynskey and Christina Ricci.Other members of the cast include Tawny Cypress, Ella Purnell, Sophie Nelisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Sammi Hanratty and Juliette Lewis.The exact number of episodes hasn’t been officially confirmed.

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is set to write the screenplay for a new Star Wars film, according to reports.As reported by Variety, original screenwriters Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Justin Britt-Gibson have departed the project, with Knight on board as a replacement.The untitled film, which is expected to be among Lucasfilm’s first Star Wars films since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel).More information about the project is expected to be announced at Star Wars Celebration in London on April 7-10.Along with Peaky Blinders, Knight is known for writing and directing 2013 films Locke starring Tom Hardy and Hummingbird with Jason Statham.

Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best has returned to the Star Wars franchise in a surprise cameo that’s left fans ‘crying’. The 49-year-old is known for playing Jar Jar in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, having first appeared in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

John Boyega has made peace with the role that previously caused him anguish that he made public, but now says “made a man of him.” 

Popular BBC series The Traitors returned for a hilarious sketch for Red Nose Day, as two iconic contestants joined a a rather star-studded round table.The parody sketch began with Dawn French playing show host Claudia Winkleman, who announced: "I’m actually Claudia Winkleman - half woman, half fringe." Those sat around the table then began to remove their hoods, revealing the famous faces underneath, which included Alison Hammond, Dame Mary Berry, Steve Merchant and Danny Dyer. Actor Ewan McGregor also made an appearance as his Star Wars character Obi Wan Kenobi. As the skit continued, Traitors icon Maddy Smedley was unhooded and accused those around the table of either being traitors or faithfuls.

Most recently, the actor-producer starred in a remake of “The Color Purple,” which is scheduled for a December 2023 release. The “Made in NY” Award will be presented to Brooks by the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.

The official fan event, which switches each year between the U.S. and an international location, is headed to London, U.K. From April 7-10, the Force is set to take over the ExCel exhibition center in London. Among the highlights are the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase on Friday, April 7, which promises the “current crop of live-action filmmakers” as well as special guests to discuss “Star Wars” projects including “The Mandalorian, “Andor” and more. On Saturday, the Lucasfilm team will give fans a sneak peak at the upcoming “Ahsoka” series, with exec producers Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau on hand to share some secrets while on Monday Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen and Indira Varma will make an appearance to discuss “Obi-Wan Kenobi.”

Other winners included “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” “Moonage Daydream,” “Better Call Saul,” “Only Murders in the Building” and “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Five-time Oscar-nominated production sound mixer Peter J. Devlin, whose credits include “Black Panther,” “Bullet Train” and “Gone in 60 Seconds,” was honored with the Cinema Audio Society’s 2023 career achievement award. Alejandro González Iñárritu who directed this year’s Oscar-nominated “Bardo” received the CAS Filmmaker of the Year.

Since the launch of Disney+ back in 2019, the streaming service has proven to be an embarrassment of riches for “Star Wars” fans.

Liam Neeson is sharing his honest thoughts on the ever expanding Star Wars universe.

Liam Neeson returned to the “Star Wars” universe with a brief cameo in last year’s Disney+ limited series “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Granted, it lasted two lines of dialogue, but it happened nonetheless. But don’t expect Neeson to return for a Qui-Gon Jinn series any time soon.

Zack Sharf Liam Neeson gets asked in almost every interview if he would reprise his role of Jedi master Qui-Gon Jinn in a “Star Wars” spinoff. The answer is often no, and such was the case when Neeson joined Paul Rudd on the Feb. 16 episode of “Watch What Happens Live!” But Neeson took things a step further, explaining that his reason for not wanting to reprise Qui-Gon Jinn is because the “Star Wars” franchise is damaging its own magic. “No, I’m not,” Neeson said when asked if he’s interested in returning. “There’s so many spinoffs of ‘Star Wars.’ It’s diluting it to me, and it’s taken away the mystery and the magic in a weird way.” Neeson had a brief cameo in the Disney+ series “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” but he only had about two lines of dialogue. The actor made his “Star Wars” debut in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,” but his character died and his “Star Wars” tenure was cut short. Neeson told ComicBook.com last year that he’d consider reprising Qui-Gon Jinn under one condition: It’s got to be a movie, not a television show.

Varma is best known for playing Ellaria Sand in four seasons of “Game of Thrones” and recently starred as Tala Durith in “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Other prominent credits include “Luther” on BBC and “Paranoid” on ITV and Netflix. Up next, Varma will appear in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” and “Extrapolations” on Apple TV+. She is reppedmby Gersh, Principal Entertainment LA and James Adams.

“Dune: Part Two” doesn’t hit theaters until November 3, 2023, but thanks to the box-office success of “Dune” last year, Legendary Pictures knows they have a hit on their hands. And that makes them confident enough to move ahead with their “Dune” series on the small screen with HBO Max.
