Paul Parker believes Manchester United's best solution to their struggles on the pitch is to appoint Ralf Rangnick on a permanent basis.
United are hoping to have a permanent appointment lined up before the end of the season, with Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag are among the frontrunners.
Pochettino is the preferred choice of both board and squad, with Rangnick currently set to move upstairs to a consultancy role when his interim coaching contract expires at the end of the season.
Second-half goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes saw 10-man Brighton eventually beaten on Tuesday night, a welcome three points for United after seeing leads lost and points dropped in their two previous games.
And former full-back Parker says it is Rangnick, not Pochettino or another suitor, who is best placed to guide United back to former glories.
“The best way out of it, really, is [to] implement the present person [Ralf Rangnick] as manager," he told MyBettingSites.
"Say he's the manager and give him a rod of steel in his hand to use, or to shift him on and bring in someone else as manager and allow him to do what he wants, even if it's gonna upset players, it's gonna upset fans.

“Go in there, and make big decisions and see what happens after.
"Because at the moment, things like these stories are coming out and are relatively true.
"There's someone out there who wants to let people know what's happening, give out their opinions.”
