Anna Marie de la Fuente Prime Video has wrapped its most ambitious action thriller in Latin America. Produced by Pablo Cruz of transatlantic production company El Estudio, “A Billion to One” stars two of Mexico’s biggest stars, Omar Chaparro (“No Manches Frida”) and Alejandro Speitzer (“Someone Has to Die”).
At the core of the pic are Carlos (Chaparro) and Miguel (Speitzer), best friends and elite soldiers in the Mexican special forces. Their lives take a turn when Carlos witnesses the brutal murder of his wife.
Consumed by grief and a thirst for justice, Carlos, with Miguel by his side, embarks on a perilous quest for revenge, armed with a life-changing lottery ticket and unwavering grit. “This project represents a significant milestone for our local productions, and we are excited to continue our great relationship with El Estudio, as well as to have such talented actors as our cast to bring this story to audiences worldwide,” said Alonso Aguilar, head of original content for Prime Video in Mexico.
The feature debut of lauded commercials director Rodrigo Valdés, the thriller is set against the dramatic landscapes of Mexico and features large-scale production values, multiple special effects and a notable cast that includes Paola Núñez, Natalia Solián, Gustavo Sánchez Parra and Luis Alberti. “It’s been a challenge and a pleasure to experiment with this fun mix of genres and wrap it in Mexico and its characters,” said Valdés who is known for his action-packed ads and has recently worked as a second-unit director in the upcoming Eddie Murphy crime-busting comedy “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” “Mexico is one of the countries that watches the most action on screens and in all media, but why don’t we as Mexican filmmakers do

EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video is rounding out cast for Obsession, a thriller series produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Atomic Monster, starring Dove Cameron and Avan Jogia. Neighbours star Ryan Maloney, who plays Toadie ‘Toadfish’ Rebecchi, has announced he’s leaving the show after 30 years.Toadie was a character who was unlucky in love for a long time, but off-screen Ryan lives with his wife, Alison Hayward, who he married in 2003 and the couple have two children, Erin and Jack - who are now teenagers. Last year, Alison and Ryan celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. Previously, he said she was a huge support when Neighbours was axed in 2022.

Jack Dunn It’s Christmas in June! Amazon MGM Studios has released the trailer for the yuletide action-adventure “Red One,” starring Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons as Saint Nick. Per the official synopsis, “After Santa Claus (Simmons) – Code Name: ‘Red One’ – is kidnapped, the North Pole’s Head of Security (Johnson) must team up with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter (Evans) in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas.” In the trailer, Johnson takes an ordinary Hot Wheels car from a toy store and turns it into a full-sized Chevy Corvette using some space-aged Christmas technology.

It’s rare for a show that appears to be running out of ideas to return two years later with the creative force that courses through the fourth season of Prime Video’s “The Boys.” After a couple of seasons of arguable wheel-spinning, seasons that seemed desperate to top the shock value of the first but didn’t do much with the complex themes or dense potential world-building in its abundance of ideas, “The Boys” oozes creative confidence with this outing and sets the table in a manner that bodes well for the future of this massive streaming hit.
