Police watchdog considers 'corruption' allegation made against GMP officers

The police watchdog says it is 'assessing the available information' arising from an allegation of corruption made against Greater Manchester Police officers.
The force itself has also confirmed it's 'reviewing' the conduct of three officers and a fourth, former officer who are the subjects of the allegation.
The M.E.N. understands the four served in the Salford area of Greater Manchester and the complaint calls into question their conduct ahead of a charge of harassment being laid against a man from Worsley, Salford.

A subsequent criminal prosecution against him was discontinued by the Crown Prosecution Service last year at Manchester and Salford magistrates court.
GMP told the man in correspondence seen by the M.E.N.: "Following the initial assessment of your complaint, it has been determined that your complaint should be referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), who will determine the mode of investigation (MOI). You will be informed of their decision in due course. Please allow sufficient time for the IOPC to reach their determination."
The Independent Office for Police Conduct, the IOPC, confirmed the complaint involved 'the police handling of a report of harassment'. GMP, it added, referred the complaint on after it was submitted.
The IPOC said it was 'assessing the available information' and would 'make a decision on the level of our involvement in due course'. GMP referred the complaint on to the IOPC on May 8. It's the standard process for all allegations of corruption.
