Police 'smashed a door down' of a house amid fears people were inside as the home next door went up in flames, residents have claimed. Emergency services raced to Totland Close in Levenshulme on Tuesday (June 4) after a semi-detached home caught fire.
Huge plumes of smoke could be seen billowing overhead amid the major blaze, as a number of fire engines attended the scene and cordoned off the residential street. Dramatic video footage from a nearby tower block showed the extent of the fire.
Neighbours were evacuated while fire crews worked to dampen the flames. No casualties were reported and emergency services left the scene a number of hours later.

The next door neighbour of the fire hit semi-detached home, who asked not to be named, told the M.E.N, claimed there 'were four children upstairs' but that 'they were unaffected' by the blaze.
The neighbour said when she arrived home police had 'smashed down her front door' amid fears that people were still inside, as other residents in homes and adjoining flats were forced to temporarily evacuate.
Police and fire crews remained at the scene for a number of hours on Tuesday, with the street blocked off by emergency services vehicles. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed but an investigation is ongoing.
