Police have surrounded a major Greater Manchester museum after a 'gun' was seen in the area. Officers were called out to the Imperial War Museum North in Trafford, opposite Salford Quays, at around 1pm this afternoon (June 21).
Greater Manchester Police says it responded to reports of a firearm being found in the surrounding area. The item has since been found and confirmed to be a BB gun.
Images from the scene show several police cars and vans parked up on roads surrounding the museum. Pavements between the museum and the Manchester Ship Canal were taped off by officers.

One image appears to show a forensics officer having gathered a bag of evidence from the area. One eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News the area was 'swarming with armed police' earlier this afternoon.
Officers do not believe there is a wider risk to the public following the incident. Detectives are continuing with their enquiries.
A GMP spokesman said: "At around 1pm today, we were called to reports of a firearm being found near to the Imperial War Museum in Trafford. Officers attended and two men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm.
"The item has been confirmed to be a BB gun. There is not believed to be any risk to the public and enquiries are currently ongoing."
