Police have closed a road in Ayrshire after a fatal crash earlier today.
Emergency crews scrambled to the A76 this afternoon, September 18, after reports of a vehicle collision at Castle Place in New Cumnock at around 12:35.
Police have confirmed a pedestrian died in the crash but have not given further details.
Local community groups posted online to say activities would be cancelled over the coming week due to the 'tragic event.'
The New Cumnock Development Trust said: "In light of the tragic event in our community today, all NCDT activities over the coming week are now cancelled."
New Cumnock Baptist Church posted: "After the tragic event in the town today Tuesday Club is cancelled. Our prayers are with the family."
New Cumnock Bowling Club said: "Due to the tragic event in our village today the green will be closed tonight in respect for the family."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are investigating a fatal road crash involving a pedestrian which happened around 12.35pm on Monday, 18 September, 2023 on Castle Place, New Cumnock.
"The road remains closed."
