Police have been called to a school amid a protest from parents and pupils over the strict rules, which have been likened to prison. The rally was sparked after parents kicked off about the "harsh" punishments at Camborne Science and International Academy, with some claiming their children were punished for things such as being a couple of minutes late or even yawning.
Mums, dads, and guardians were spotted outside the school today over the school's firmer discipline. Pupils themselves gathered at the school gates, within the grounds, with one child being spotted climbing the fence, Cornwall Live reports.
Parents have also raised concerns about CSIA's plans to join the Athena Learning Trust, which is known for its strict regimes. Among their disciplinary procedures is 'reflection', where pupils are pulled out of class and put in detention and allegedly ordered to write lines from a workbook with no break.
CSIA said earlier this week that it was undergoing "due diligence" with a view to joining the trust in the future but said there would be consultation before a "final decision" was made. However, a letter dated May 9 and seen by Cornwall Live confirmed the chair of trustees had already unanimously decided to join Athena.
Pupils and parents have raised concerns over the "military-style" approach to punishment, with kids put in detention for wearing trousers they have worn for years because they are no longer deemed appropriate, asking to go to the toilet, not having a clear pencil case, and for taking off a blazer during a heatwave.
Jemma Tresidder, 38, has called the rules "absolutely ridiculous" saying her son spent just half a day in lessons on his first week back at school. The mum said: "The school just seems to be
