Pictures of Iain Packer's van released as soil found matched with Emma Caldwell murder scene

Police helped bring Iain Packer to justice over Emma Caldwell's murder thanks to soil found in his van. The killer drove a dark blue Iveco and officers found dirt inside the vehicle which matched soil from the scene.
During his trial, the court heard soil taken in 2021 from the site where the 27-year-old's body was found was a near perfect match with the earth they had found in his van.
It was said to be a "97% match" and he was charged by police in February 2022, after the discovery. Police Scotland released pictures of the van this afternoon, as the 51-year-old begins a life sentence over the murder.
The images show the front, back and cab of the van, which is emblazoned with logos saying Alpha Beta Signs Ltd and Alpha Beta Sign Services. It also featured a lion rampant waving a saltire.
Giving evidence previously, Dr Stefan Uitdehaag said he had been commissioned by Police Scotland to write a report on the study of soil taken from around Limefield Woods in Biggar, South Lanarkshire.
The forensic scientist, from the Netherlands Forensic Institute in the Hague, calculated "ecological distances" between six samples as part of the soil study, which is known as palynology.
The samples from the site - where Miss Caldwell's body was found on May 8, 2005 - were compared with one found in the footwell of Packer's van, and he examined pollen composition.
The six samples from the site included from a molehill on a route to the body site, two from ditches where Miss Caldwell was found, from under spruce needles, from an area where footprints were found a few metres from the body, and from under moss.
