This Morning presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby have been nominated for best TV presenter at this year's National Television Awards after a turbulent week which saw the end of their decade-long presenting partnership. The show itself is also up for the daytime prize, and This Morning's Alison Hammond, Dermot O'Leary and Rylan Clark are also among the 50 names longlisted for the presenter award.
The popular duo were snubbed at last year's awards after failing to make the shortlist, with the gong eventually going to presenting powerhouse duo Ant and Dec.There was some consolation, however, as they collected the Daytime show award instead. The longlist will be a welcome bit of good news to the This Morning team after Phillip's shock exit at the weekend which followed weeks of rumours of a rift between him and Holly, who has been his co-host since she joined in 2009, replacing Fern Britton.
Holly then announced she was taking a two-week half-term break, saying the sofa "wouldn't be the same" without her long-time co-host. Among those tipped to replace Phillip are Alison, Dermot and Rylan, all of whom have proven to be firm favourites with This Morning viewers.
The NTA longlist also saw Bowelbabe Dame Deborah James, who set up her cancer research fund and died aged 40 last year, and Paul O’Grady posthumously recognised in the authored documentary and factual entertainment categories. Paul's For the Love of Dogs show will face stiff competition with Jay Blades' The Repair Shop and The Martin Lewis Money Show Live in the same category.
