“Are streamers scaling back?” and “Is this a renaissance period for indie financed films?” were two of the questions at the heart of a Zurich Summit panel this morning, featuring CAA‘s Roeg Sutherland, WME‘s Katie Irwin and Oscar-winning producer John Lesher (Birdman).

Ansel Elgort is back on the beat: Toyko Vice, which is loosely inspired by American journalist Jake Adelstein’s first-hand account of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police beat, will return February 8 to Max.

Jaden Thompson Max has released the trailer for Season 2 of its original crime drama series “Tokyo Vice,” which will premiere on the streamer on Feb. 8 with the release of two episodes. Subsequently, one episode will debut every week for eight weeks.

Commenting on changing investment strategies at Netflix, Bühler stated, “We’re available in over 190 countries and we have 238 million subscribers, very diverse, around the world, and we actively produce in 50 countries, so it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach, and there are territories that are more saturated than others.” There are definite growth markets for Netflix and the company has not slowed down its investments at all, she added.

The indie film confab Zurich Summit took place Saturday as the marquee industry event alongside the Zurich Film Festival. More than 100 film pros took part in the all-day session that drilled down into the state of the industry.

Former Lionsgate film chief Patrick Wachsberger, Carol producer Christine Vachon, Neon CEO Tom Quinn and SPC bosses Michael Barker and Tom Bernard will be among industry executives taking part in the Zurich Summit tomorrow [Saturday 24] in Switzerland.

David Ayer is bringing his 2012 movie End of Watch to television. Fox has handed a script-to-series commitment to the police drama project based on original film which starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña.

Like the film, the show would follow the daily grind of two young police officers in Los Angeles who are partners and friends, and what happens when they meet criminal forces greater than themselves.Ayer will executive produce via Cedar Park Studios, with the company’s Chris Long and Darryll C. Scott also executive producing.

Ethan Shanfeld Adam Driver, Penélope Cruz and Shailene Woodley have joined Michael Mann’s racing film “Ferrari.”The big-budget biopic follows ex-racecar driver and auto manufacturing giant Enzo Ferrari in the summer of 1957. With his marriage in crisis over the mourning of a son, and the threat of bankruptcy looming over the company he and his wife built 10 years earlier, Ferrari embarks on a bold race — the Mille Miglia, 1,000 miles across Italy.Driver replaces Hugh Jackman, who had initially signed on to play the title character.

The project has famously been through multiple iterations, but this is as far along as the casting has been at any stage.

Tokyo Vice, after pausing production in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will finally land at HBO Max this spring. The series, which stars Ken Watanabe and Ansel Elgort hails from creator and writer J.T. Rogers.
