Paris Texas, a duo spinning the last decade or so of underground rap into their own sound, are back with their first new song of the year. “PANIC!!!” follows their 2021 full-length Boy Anonymous and last year's one-off single "cyanide." The relatively quiet release schedule makes it all the more appropriate that Paris Texas would return with both barrels blazing.
"PANIC!!!" merges the flows of SoundCloud rap icons like XXXTentacion and Playboi Carti with a beat that's closer to cold wave than hip-hop; it would be jarring if this kind of genre confluence wasn't Paris Texas' whole thing. The rockstar mood is kept going in the track's music video, where the duo dive into a mosh put that turns deadly; their solemn drive home is soundtracked by a clip of a different, as-yet unreleased tune.
