A traditional fish pie is a classic British recipe that can be made from scratch quite easily, given that its only got two layers - fish and mashed potato.
This typical weekday meal is a tasty homemade option for many families, and can add a taste of warmth and comfort on these cold evenings, reports the Express.
And one food blogger has shared her own recipe for the pie, as chef Jo Cooks said: "It’s the perfect comfort dinner, quite easy to make, even though there are a few steps involved, but it’s so satisfying to put together. My favourite part is that golden, cheesy mashed potato topping, can’t beat that!"
This recipe does call for three different kinds of fish, but you can easily change the dish around to suit your own needs.
For the topping:
Begin by peeling and chopping the potatoes, and place them into a pan of boiling water. Cook for 20 minutes, or until tender, then drain the water.
Return them to the pan and add in the milk followed by the butter and mix well to create a smooth consistency. Season with salt and pepper, then set aside for later.
Then, preheat the oven to 175C and begin chopping the carrots, dill and fish. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat before adding in the green onions, carrots, and minced garlic, and cook for two minutes.
Sprinkle some flour over this mixture and stir as it cooks for a further two minutes, before adding two cups of milk slowly - whisk until smooth and thickened.
After this, add one cup of cheese, dijon mustard and dill to this mixture and stir until the cheese has melted.
Add in the fish, stirring gently and cook for two minutes before adding the frozen peas and some salt and pepper.
Make up the pie by pouring the fish mixture into an ovenproof dish, then top
