Emergency services rushed to the derelict Gartsherrie School in Coatbridge, after receiving reports of the inferno at around 7.45pm on Sunday evening, June 9, reports Glasgow Live.
Thick plumes of smoke could be seen, all the way from Glasgow city centre. Crews battled the vicious flames well into the early hours of the following the morning.
The huge blaze is now believed to be extinguished and cops have since confirmed that the road is reopened to the public.
Footage of the aftermath shows the blackened state of the former school.
The building appears to have lost its roof in the fire and many of the windows seem to be blown out.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Gartsherrie Road in Coatbridge which was closed due to an earlier fire has now re-opened.
"We thank the public for their patience while the road was closed."
