Nirvana announce special 30th anniversary reissue of ‘In Utero’

Nirvana‘s ‘In Utero’ has recalled being “insulted” by Courtney Love in a book.Kera Schaley plays cello on the songs ‘All Apologies’ and B-side ‘Marigold’ on the Seattle trio’s 1993 album, and has rarely spoken about her appearance.To celebrate the album’s 30th anniversary though, she appeared on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast to discuss her experience in the studio, and a run-in with Love.Revealing that she hasn’t spoken to any Nirvana member since she appeared on the album, Schaley said: “The only thing I heard, and this is embarrassing, but I am insulted by Courtney Love in that Come As You Are book.”In the book by Michael Azzerad, ‘In Utero’ producer Steve Albini – the then-girlfriend of Schaley – reportedly labelled Love a “psycho hose beast,” to which she responded: “The only way Steve Albini would think I was a perfect girlfriend, would be if I was from the East Coast, played the cello, had small hoop earrings, wore black turtlenecks, had all matching luggage, and never said a word.”Schaley said: “She doesn’t say my name, but she makes all these references, and all my friends like are sending me this thing going, look at what she said about me. And I was like, that’s pretty catty for a so-called feminist.“So I sent her a joke letter, teasing her about it, and she called me in the middle of the night one time, and I honestly was half asleep, but her way of apologising was saying, “I’m sorry you thought I was talking about you.””Next month, Nirvana will release a 30th anniversary reissue of ‘In Utero’.

D12 have announced a UK tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their second and final studio album ‘D12 World’.Kicking off in December, the Detroit hip-hop collective will make their way across the Atlantic Ocean to play the O2 Ritz in Manchester on the 6th. From there, D12 will then make stops in Birmingham, London, Bristol and Cardiff. The final show of the tour will take place on December 12 in Southampton.Tickets will go on general sale on Friday, September 22 at 10am local time.

Neil Young has announced details of a 50th anniversary reissue of his 1973 album, Time Fades Away.A special reissue of the album, entitled Time Fades Away 50 will be released on November 3 via Reprise Records in a new limited edition clear vinyl.In addition to the eight original songs on the album, the new anniversary release will also include the bonus song ‘The Last Trip to Tulsa.’ This was originally released in November 1973 as the B-side to the album’s single, which was the title track. New Order have announced reissued editions of their classic compilation album ‘Substance 1987’ – find all the details below.Originally released via the legendary Factory Records, the record featured all of the Manchester band’s singles up to that point in their 12″ forms, as well as many of their respective B-sides.‘Substance 1987’ also contained newly-recorded versions of the songs ‘Temptation’ and Confusion’. Amy Winehouse’s band have announced details of a special London show, set to celebrate the singer for what would have been her 40th birthday.The upcoming gig will be held at the KOKO venue in Camden this December and is set to celebrate the life and music of the late singer, as well as the legacy she left behind.The band set to headline the event are the same musicians who were working with Winehouse from the very start of her career, up until her unexpected death in 2011. This includes her long-term Musical Director and bass player Dale Davis – who is also working as the music consultant on the upcoming Amy biopic, titled Back to Black.Alongside the original band members, the show will also feature vocals by singer Bronte Shandé, as well as a variety of on-screen visuals and rare footage of the singer.The one-off special gig will be held in the late musician’s Camden hometown on December 22 – and will celebrate what would have been her 40th birthday this Thursday (September 14).

Jem Aswad Executive Editor, Music Nirvana’s third and final album, “In Utero,” is often overlooked because it basically marked the beginning of the end of the band — Kurt Cobain died less than eight months after it was released. While not the kind of celebratory, culture-shifting album that its predecessor, “Nevermind,” was, it’s still a glorious piece of vulnerable, rebellious rock music that includes some of Cobain’s best-ever songs.
